Traffic diversion plan leads to massive traffic jam across city
Soon after the closure of Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover road and the implementation of the much awaited Traffic diversion plan, huge traffic jams Wednesday hit city which resulted to nuisance to commuters.
Commuters had to take alternative routes to reach their respective destinations.
Thousands of vehicles which were on way to Srinagar from Pulwama, Budgam , and north Kashmir remained stranded in traffic jams for hours in the morning at Patha Chowk, Bemina, Hyderpora, Tengporo, Nowgam, Parimpora, and Batamaloo.
Vehicles were also stranded at Rambagh Bridge and along the bund. There was pumper to bumper movement of traffic for hours.
Commuters stranded in traffic jam said, “Traffic police personnel were focussing on challaning vehicles. They failed to control traffic on roads. Volunteers also swung into action and cleared the illegal parking at several places.”
Shopkeepers at Bemina crossing alleged that despite the huge traffic jam in place traffic cops were busy with challans. Instead of controlling the chaotic traffic situation they preferred to challan vehicles.
“We remained stranded for hours all together. Passengers had to face immense inconvenience. Scores of commuters returned back to their homes. It consumed our precious time,” a group of passengers told Kashmir Post.
Sajad Ahmad a commuter who was on way to Railway station from Narbal. He said, “I was stranded in traffic jam for two hours from Shalteng to Bemina. Traffic jams wasted my precious two hours.”
Every day there are traffic jams but today it was worst of its kind, he added.
Hyderpora crossing also received huge traffic jams which created inconveniences to commuters visiting from Budgam to Srinagar.
A group of students stranded in traffic jams expressed anguish over the rising traffic jams in the city. They said, they reached schools and colleges in late hours and missed the classes.
Meanwhile restrictions in civil lines area of the Srinagar city also resulted in massive traffic jams in the summer capital including Jehangir Chowk along Batamaloo road.
Thousands of people were waiting in vehicles, private and public to move forward however there was no end to their worries because, Police and CRPF cops did not allowed any kind of vehicles towards Lal Chowk.
Traffic department on April 07 issued the diversion plan to regulate the traffic mechanism in the city. Traffic jams in major crossings and junctions were reported in some parts of the city.
